I had a friend who has sworn that the benefits she has had after using Matcha were fabulous. After seeing it on TV, reading about it and her introducing me to this amazing powdered green tea known as Matcha I decided why not write my reviews after using it since it has gained so much popularity.
Sooooo What is Matcha?
Matcha is a particular type of powdered green tea that is grown and produced in Japan. The green tea leaves are shaded from the sun for the last few weeks of their growth, increasing the chlorophyll which gives it the attractive green color. The powder can be used to brew an antioxidant-rich green tea, or you can add it to recipes like smoothies or baking. You actual need only a 1/2 tsp of powder to brew a traditional cup of Matcha.
What are the Benefits?
It has Antioxidants
Matcha is the high concentration of antioxidants. In fact, this type of green tea contains over sixty times the antioxidants of spinach. There is some evidence that the polyphenols in the matcha leaves may help shield against certain kinds of cancer.
Energy and Calming effects
Matcha tea has L-Theanine, an amino acid that helps balance the caffeine. While matcha may contain the same caffeine as other types of tea, the L-Theanine is known to create calmness without drowsiness.
The L-Theanine in green tea is known to help stimulate alpha brain waves. Which is known for their ability to help increase focus and concentration?
EGCG, found in high concentrations in Matcha, has been shown to increase the rate of burning stored fat as energy, as well as decreasing the formation of new fat cells.
